06/96 - The Assessment of Leyomioma Vascularity and Blood Flow characteristics by Transvaginal Color Doppler (TVCD).

Objective: The aim of the this study was to investigate the vascularity and assess the blood flow characteristics of the uterine leyomiomas.

Design and Methods: A group of 127 women (range 25-63 years old), with diagnostic of uterine leyomiomas, were examined by TVCD, between july 1995 to may 1996. Color flow assessment was performed to identify the tumor vessels (i.e. peripheral, central), analyzing the following criteria: "presence" or "absence" of color flow, A/B ratio, resistence index (RI) and pulsatility index (PI).

Results: In 115 cases (90,55%) there was "presence" of color flow, and in 12 cases (9,45%) there was "absence" of color flow .The mean tumor size was 2,67cm (SD 1,57, range 0,6cm-8,5cm). The mean AB ratio was 3,10 (SD 1,26;range 1,75 - 10,0 ). The mean RI was 0,64 ( SD 0,11; range 0,41 - 1,0). The mean PI was 1,21 (SD 0,44; range 0,59 - 2,74 ). The tumor vessels were peripheral 108 cases (85,03%), in intra-tumoral 61cases (48,03%), and both 56 cases (44,09%).

Conclusion: The results sugests that the uterine leyomiomas have great impedance pattern (RI 0,64 SD 0,11). The TVCD can help for assessment the vascularization of the uterine leyomiomas and the impedance pattern.
